2022 NBA Draft: Ben Mathurin Set To Make History
The 2022 NBA Draft is right around the corner and a historical pick is likely to happen. Ben Mathurin is projected to be a lottery pick in this year's draft, even going as high as the 5th pick according to various mock drafts. Ben would become the first-ever player from Montreal to be drafted in the lottery.
Following in the footsteps of Joel Anthony, Chris Boucher, Lu Dort, Karim Mané, and others, Ben is another prime example of what Montreal basketball has to offer. The Pac-12 Player Of The Year has earned his stripes at Arizona averaging 17.7 points per game in his sophomore season compared to his 10.8 points per game in his freshman year. He took a bigger role this past season which resulted in a 33-4 record, a Pac-12 championship, and the No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament.
As a 6’6” wing, Ben can space the floor and get his shots off the dribble and coming off screens. Those are just add-ons to the athleticism he possesses which can make him a good scorer at the pro level. He can switch gears when needed and he has hops that will surely get fans out of their seats. The knock against him that some have is his efforts defensively, but with his frame, that is something that he can improve on.
June 23rd, 2022 will be a memorable day for the Montreal basketball community when Ben Mathurin gets his name called by whichever team that selects him. He would have made history and proved that Montreal is a city with talent that can’t be overlooked. We’ll be tuned in to what he does next in the NBA.
