Dawson Blues vs Vanier Cheetahs: Montreal's Best Rivalry!
The Vanier Cheetahs walked away with the win in the much anticipated matchup against their long time rival, the Dawson Blues. They were able to pull away with a 84-76 victory. Steeve Joseph had a team-high 18 points. The Cheetahs and the Blues gave us an intense game and delivered on the high expectations. Right from tip-off the boys went at it and traded baskets. The half ended with the tight score of 43-39 for Vanier. However, in the second half the Cheetahs took advantage of the Blues 7-man roster and found openings in their defence in the third quarter (Dawson 52-65 Vanier). The Blues tried to get back in the game, but it was too little too late. Regardless, Javon Joseph-Spencer had a solid game, 19 points, and had solid help from Daddi Haidara's 17 points, 8 rebounds, and 9 assists, while the Georges twins combined for 26 points. On the otherside, Steeve Joseph had a team-high 18 points and Nginyu Ngala added 13 points. That didn't take way from the intensity of the game. If anything it was at its best towards the end as players really started getting under each others skin, which resulted in couple scuffles. Even the fans of both sides started getting into it. It's safe to say the D1 rivalry between Dawson vs. Vanier is very much alive.
